The course
Built on the new HSK standard
Chinese courses are moving to HSK 3.0, and most study tools have not caught up. XueTang follows the new syllabus: three parts, one per Band, 28 chapters and 84 units you walk in order.
Example sentences use words you have already met, so new material always lands on something you know. Every HSK 1 word comes with its own painted illustration.

Memory
Review exactly what you are forgetting
FSRS schedules every word separately for each way you practise it: recognising, recalling, hearing and saying it. Knowing what a word means does not hide that you cannot say it yet.
- Every word has its own page, with its memory curve and track record shown openly.
- Words you keep missing are drilled against the ones you confuse them with.
Tones
Say it, and see your pitch
Say a word, and a Core ML model scores each syllable and draws your pitch against the target contour. It was trained on 9,840 recorded syllables and runs entirely on your iPhone, so your voice never leaves it.
Readiness
Know how close you are to each Band
The Readiness screen measures your syllables, characters, vocabulary and grammar against each HSK 3.0 Band, and projects when you will get there at your current pace.
One job, done carefully
There are no streaks, XP, coins, leagues or achievements, because they reward protecting a number rather than learning Chinese. XueTang is the course, the memory science and the craft, made by one independent developer.
FAQ
Questions
Which HSK version does XueTang teach?
HSK 3.0, the new standard (GF0025-2021). The words and all 210 grammar points come from the official syllabus, and each part of the course is one Band. XueTang covers Bands 1 to 3.
Is XueTang a game?
No. There are no streaks, XP, coins, leagues or achievements. They reward protecting a number rather than learning Chinese. What you get instead is a clear view of what you remember and what is slipping.
How does the review schedule work?
XueTang uses FSRS, a modern spaced-repetition algorithm, and schedules every word separately for each way you practise it: recognising it, recalling it, hearing it and saying it. You review exactly the parts you are forgetting, not the whole card.
Does my voice leave my phone?
No. Tone practice runs entirely on your iPhone: a Core ML model scores each syllable and draws your pitch against the target contour. No recording is uploaded.
How much does it cost?
XueTang is free to download. The full course is part of XueTang Premium, monthly or yearly, and the yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency. You can cancel any time in your Apple Account settings.
What do I need?
An iPhone with iOS 18 or later.
